Mafia Island is part of Tanzania’s Mafia Archipelago, in the Indian Ocean.This package is concepted to add in a Zanzibar vacation as a 3 days excursion.

Large swaths of the island’s southern coastline and surrounding waters are protected by the Mafia Island Marine Park. Within the park are many coral reefs, home to wildlife such as whale sharks and sea turtles. In the south, beaches include secluded Ras Kisimani, just across from Bwejuu Island. Popular Utende Beach edges onto Chole Bay.

Itinerary in detail:

Day 1:
Depart by flight from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar 09:30am, arrive Mafia at 11:15, meet and greet by resort representative and transfer to the lodge.

Dinner and Overnight at Mafia Island Lodge or Butiama Lodge

Day 2:
After breakfast you’ll proceed in Mafia Marine Park for swim with the Whale sharks. These magical creatures can grow up to 14 metres long and weigh a whopping 40 tonnes!

Humpbacks are renowned for their magical songs which travel for great distances. These songs are complex and often continue for hours on end. They migrate annually from the cool polar waters to the warmer waters near the equator to mate and nurse. The most breath-taking moments with these whales is watching them breach, throwing themselves out of the water to land with a tremendous splash. They also slap their fins and tails in a playful manner putting on a super show.

We usually combine the chance to spot these magical mammals with a sandbank trip.

After a couple of hours of whale watching we go for a quick snorkel and then a relaxing fish BBQ and picnic on the picturesque patch of sand.

Day 3:
After leisurely breakfast, transfer to Mafia for a flight to Zanzibar or Dar Es Salaam by flight 15:45.
