Overview

This small group overland tour with camping accomodation offers you insights in Botswana culture, history and also includes a safari part. The tour takes you from Gaborone to Maun on a budget. On the way you visit Khama Rhino Sanctuary, the Orapa Diamond Museum, Makgadikgadi National Park and the Okavango Delta. All activities and transfers are included during this tour.

It is often combined with our Highlights of Botswana Tour (Maun to Victoria Falls).

What you will do

Day 1

ARRIVAL IN GABORONE (-/-/-)
We welcome you at the airport and take you to your accomodation in Gaborone where you can relax and unwind from the journey and prepare for the adventure of the next days.

Day 2

GABORONE CITY TOUR & ONWARDS TO KHAMA RHINO (B/L/D)
After breakfast we pick you at your accomodation and a local guide will show you our capital city in 3 hours on a cultural and brief historical tour. We start at the Three Chiefs Monument, move on to the government enclave before mixing and mingling with locals in Gabrone Main Mall`s street market. We then take you to Thabong Visual Art Centre and afterwards drive through Old Naledi Township (the crib of Gaborone) to Botswana Craft where our tour ends at noon with lunch.

In the afternoon we leave Gaborone and drive up north to Serowe where we set up camp in the bush of Khama Rhino Sanctuary.

Day 3

KHAMA RHINO SANCTUARY & DIAMOND MUSEUM (B/-/-)
We start the day in the very early morning at 6am with a 4×4 tour through Khama Rhino Sanctuary. Afterwards we have breakfast at the restaurant of the Community Trust before heading to Orapa area. We set up camp and have the opportunity to order lunch. Then in the afternoon we enter the restricted mining area. A mining worker will give us a shot introduction then we can explore the Diamond Museum.

Day 4

GAMEDRIVE IN MAKGADIKGADI NATIONAL PARK (B/L/-)
After breakfast we continue our journey to Makgadikgadi National Park. We drive along the channel of the Boteti River and have a picknick Please note we are not visiting Makgadikgadi Salt Pans. This gamedrives visits Makgadikgadi National Park. Between January-April we might see the Great Zebra Migration.
We then continue to Maun.

Day 5

EXPLORING THE CHANNELS OF THE OKAVANGO DELTA (B/L/-)
Today you spend the whole day in the Okavango Delta.

The tour starts in the early morning with a 1h speedboat cruise to the Buffalo Fence. Because of dryseason or other circumstances we might drive you in a 4×4 vehicle.

At the buffalo fence you meet your poler, who will take you on an unforgettable journey through the channels of the Okavango. Born and raised in the Okavango Delta, our polers and guides show you their home which they are very pationate and knowledgable about. Our experienced polers take you on a journey deep in the watersystem.

Enjoy the peace of the delta in a Mokoro, the traditional onetree-canoe.

For picnic lunch you stop on one of the islands. Afterwards you go on a walking safari. Another Mokoro excursion takes you back to the buffalo fence where we pick you up for your return transfer to Maun where the tour ends.
