Probably from that crack came out a prehistorical river &#8211; now disappeared &#8211; that filled up the lake. That empty cave looks like a dark place where no one will ever go and if anyone lived in there, it could only be a evil spirit! So far the legend. History, instead, tells us that this land was discovered by European travelers back in the 19th century. It <strong>became a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_park\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Park<\/a> only in 1984.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2>About Hell&#8217;s Gate National Park<\/h2>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kws.go.ke\/content\/hells-gate-national-park\"><strong>Hell&#8217;s Gate National Park<\/strong><\/a> is a &#8220;small&#8221; reserve &#8211; compared to the average African natural parks &#8211; covering 68,25 sq km, 90 km away from Nairobi. <strong>It spreads all around Lake Naivasha<\/strong> and at the foot of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mount_Longonot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mt Longonot<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stratovolcano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">stratovolcano mountain<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_stratovolcanoes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">still active<\/a>, sometimes. Though most part of the Park is green and a good<em> habitat<\/em> for plants and animals, there are many volcanic phenomena here and there. Two old craters rise in the middle of its territory. Between them you find very <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hot_spring\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>hot springs<\/strong><\/a>. Their water could even burn the human skin.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2>Wildlife of the Park<\/h2>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>What kind of animals live at Hell&#8217;s Gate National Park? <strong>Most part of the local wildlife consists in birds and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.small-mammals.org\/small-mammals-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">small mammals<\/a><\/strong>. There are also typical African animals like lions, cheetahs, leopards, buffalos, zebras, antelopes but they do not usually cross the Park&#8217;s territory. This is also why <strong>Hell&#8217;s Gate is considered one of the safest places for safaris.<\/strong> Eagles, agur buzzards, vultures and especially the beautiful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/animal\/lammergeier\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lammergeyer vultures<\/a> are the most interesting animals of the Park. Here <strong>you can explore and enjoy the nature in full safety.<\/strong> Guides will always be by your side, but you are <strong>allowed to even camp inside the Park<\/strong>, not far from the wild animals&#8217; environments. There are four tourist structures inside the territory of the park: three campings and one lodge. You can <strong>go safari, or practice birdwatching<\/strong> &#8211; especially on birds of prey.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>You can <strong>go on boat trip on the lake or hike to the volcanic craters.<\/strong> Or you might like to visit the Olkaria Centre, the first geothermal power station in Africa, a great example of &#8220;green energy&#8221;. Local guides will lead you to visit the places that inspired the scenes of cartoon <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Lion_King_(2019_film)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Lion King<\/em><\/a> and of videogame <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lara_Croft:_Tomb_Raider\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Lara Croft: Tomb Raider<\/em><\/a>. Tourists are allowed to <strong>meet the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Maasai_people\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Masaai People<\/a>,<\/strong> after spending a few hours at the Masaai Centre, learning about their culture.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2>How to get there<\/h2>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>You can<strong> get to Hell&#8217;s Gate by airplane<\/strong>, landing at the local <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/airstrip\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">air strip<\/a>.
